IRA Charitable Rollover Extended

Congress has extended the tax-free charitable IRA rollover until December 31, 2009 as part of the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008.

You can transfer up to $100,000 from your IRA, tax-free, for each of the tax years 2008 and 2009.

  • You must be age 70 1/2 or above.
  • Transfers must go DIRECTLY from your plan administrator to the UO Foundation. Funds that are withdrawn by you and then contributed do NOT qualify for the tax exemption.
  • Your gift must be given outright (distributions to donor-advised funds, private foundations, or life-income gifts do not qualify).
  • The transfer is excluded from your income so no additional charitable deduction is allowed.

This transfer will not be considered taxable income.

Contact the Office of Gift Planning for information about how to make this transfer.
