Looking Forward

Annika Hearn says scholarships gave her freedom to explore her passion for health care while earning degrees in Spanish and international studies at Oregon.

As part of her study-abroad experience in Ecuador, she spent 130 hours observing in a medical clinic.

“I realized that one of the biggest obstacles facing many people in developing countries is having access to good health care,” says the native Oregonian, “but there are also problems for people right here in Oregon.”

Now she’s in nursing school at Oregon Health and Science University, the next step toward her goal to become a nurse practitioner.

She’s also looking forward to giving back.

“I hope I can support a UO student in some way in the future,” she says.
