Setting the Standard
Earning a degree is “definitely a big deal” for PathwayOregon Scholar Miguel Hernandez.
“No one else in my family has gone to college,” says the newly minted UO grad from Hillsboro. “I want to set high standards for my siblings.”
A general sciences major, Hernandez looks forward to becoming a physical therapist or chiropractor. Active in student organizations from LatinX to the Entrepreneur Club, he also made time for minors in chemistry and business.
None of this would have happened, he says, if not for PathwayOregon donors. “Once the financial obstacle is removed, the rest is on us to pull through and show that these donations are not going to waste.”
And he’s just getting started.
“I want to make my parents proud after all their hard work and effort to get me here, he says. “It doesn’t stop here. I’m working to get into graduate school.”
