Solari scholar

Mary Ferris VertulfoScholarships are giving Mary Ferris Vertulfo, a freshman in the UO’s Robert D. Clark Honors College, a chance to pursue her talent as an illustrator.

Mary’s awards include the Mary Corrigan and Richard Solari Scholarship. Designed to help middle-income students, it provides $20,000 over four years.

This immediately reduced the financial stress on her family now that Mary and her brother, who is a year older, are both in college.

She plans to major in art with a minor in Arabic, which she began learning on her own as a student at South Eugene High School.

“I am grateful to be able to do what I’m most passionate about,” said Mary, who works part-time to help pay her expenses.

“There are so many kids with great potential who deserve the same opportunity I have.”
