NEWS FROM THE DIRECTOR

Greetings! Many of you quickly answered our emergency call to support the Students in Crisis Fund. THANK YOU.

Your gifts have helped more than 1,100 students affected by unexpected financial hardship related to COVID-19. Because of your support, this endowed fund will continue to help students in need for generations to come.

Meanwhile, most UO staffers are still working from home. We missed having the usual summer campus experience, but working remotely has not slowed us down. The entire faculty and staff is striving to make our students’ return to campus safe and successful.

Over the spring and summer, I have been involved in the UO’s new partnership with Lane County Public Health. I am happy to report the university will have the capacity to provide thousands of COVID-19 tests per week by the time classes start this fall.

This effort harnesses UO’s genomic and human subject research capabilities, which were developed with support from gifts, to create a cost-effective coronavirus testing and tracing pipeline.

Please contact me If you would like to learn more about this ambitious program.
