Rubby (pronounced “ruby”) Marquez has both feet firmly planted in three schools and colleges at once: business, journalism and communication, and arts and sciences.
A first-generation student, this daughter of immigrants from Hillsboro, Oregon, manages roles as a student leader in several organizations while also pursuing a minor in sports business and multimedia on top of double majoring in advertising and Spanish.
“My scholarships give me the freedom to do all of this,” says Marquez.
She hopes donors know their contributions help give students like her the confidence to challenge themselves in ways that once seemed to be reserved for a privileged few.
“With scholarships backing us up, we are not afraid to step in and share our perspective,” she says. “That’s how you get new ideas and innovation.”
