Helping Students – Wilbur Watters (1916–2010)

Wilbur WattersHe was born nearly 100 years ago, but the late Wilbur M. Watters ’39 will be helping students like Elizabeth Lytle from now on.

Homeless when he arrived at the UO during the Great Depression, Wilbur earned his degree in education. He went on to serve in World War II and made his career in veteran’s affairs.

In 2004, he contacted us about including a gift in his estate plan that would create a scholarship for future teachers who could not afford college on their own.

Elizabeth is the first student to receive the Wilbur M. Watters Education Scholarship.
